This is my 4th FKT of the year, but it's the first time in about 3 years that I've put in a hard long distance effort. I tried to run it like it was a 50k race, which is about what the difficulty level of this route feels like. The traverse is overall very technical and has lots of little scrambly sections in the north, with just one really nice cruiser section between Morgan and Livermore. The trails were extremely wet yesterday after all the rain we had this week, and there were lots of blowdowns. In fact, we had to move a big one out of the road in Sandwich Notch before we even started (luckily 4 other people were there to help). Jason started the run with me, but we each went at our own pace, and I actually only saw him for a few minutes around Morgan, a few around Cotton, and then not at all on the return. It was a very chilly and windy day to start, but turned out to be sunny and warm in the afternoon. I felt good the whole way other than the legs getting pretty tired. I fell twice on wet rock/mud, but nothing serious. I did the ladders and Morgan summit spur both directions. My goal was 6 hours or under, so I was happy to crush that with a 5:39. The first traverse was southbound in 2:42 and the return was 2:57.
