Whilst on holiday in Jersey I had thought about attempting this FKT route, the weather was predicted to be cloudy but calm and things looked good. In the end there was a recorded high of 20 °C in St Helier and it felt hot whilst I was out running in the sun with no shade. The 1L of water I had taken was only just enough and I had to be conservative with it after Green Island. I took bus 1 from St Helier to the start which gave me a nice chance to have a visual recce out the bus window over the beaches and out towards some of the route points, it definitely helped in my mind to have more of an idea how far I was going between points and to get a look at the exposed rocky outcrops that are scattered along the bays.

This FKT appealed to me because it wasn't just about time, it was about route choices in order to navigate between the route points/landmarks. There wasn't an existing solo female attempt so I thought it would be fun to be the first solo female although it was a bit hairy in places such as between Seymour Tower and Icho Tower; I began to think venturing out alone was a stupid idea but as the terrain became less 'exciting' I calmed down again. As with all running, you have to be sensible with decisions about foot placement and route choice and this was no different albeit more soggy.

I took onboard the comment made by RichardW and had a look at the point to point locations and considered the route options I could take between them to save myself distance where possible. I had a really good tide window - I set off 1.5hrs before low tide and my aim to was be at or past Icho tower at the lowest tide point which I managed to do comfortably, although beforehand I had no idea how it was going to go because I haven't run on sand before or through shallow rock pools. I added a few seconds here and there due to having to check the map and the printed route points list as I am not a local and therefore wasn't 100% confident which towers were which so the pressure of having to get specific photos at specific landmarks added a layer of stress onto the challenge that I hadn't had before.

I was really tired and drained by the time I was crossing St Aubin's bay and the sound of the incoming tide was surprisingly loud, I stuck close to the waves along the beach and reached St Aubins fort in a good time. The last section down the causeway and up the beach access ramp I took steady because I didn't want to slip on the algae covered stones!

My advice to anyone who isn't a local who wants to attempt this, time permitting, would be to go for some mini walks or runs along the beaches at low tide and maybe do an out and back to Seymour and/or Icho because I think if you can get those sections smoothed out, the rest is simpler.

I checked tide windows on the gov website, other sources are available but I found this one to be helpful and uncomplicated! https://www.gov.je/weather/tidetimes/
