Route: Wantastiquet-Monadnock Trail (NH)

Location
New Hampshire, US
Distance
43.1 mi
Description

Robert Koning submitted the route:

Beginning beside the Connecticut river on the west side of Wantastiquet Mtn, follow the connector trail to Mt Monadnock. 45 miles to top and 2.5 miles back to toll road parking.47.5 miles total. The route includes 12 miles of bike path through Keene to Troy.

The Wantastiquet-Monadnock connector trail is a new trail in the south west corner of the state. Beginning at the VT state line, it traverses one of the largest open sections of land in the state. The trail is brain-child and 20 year vision of Tom Duston. Together with the Monadnock Conservancy, Horatio Colony, City of Keene, Friends of Pisgah, Madame Sherri, and other local organizations, this new trail has been born. Perhaps most unique aspect is that is travels west-east where the M&M, Metacomet and Monadnock Sunnapee Greenway are all N-S orientation.

The section through Keene to Troy is bike path, so it makes sense to bicycle this 12 mile section (which would be listed as a "multisport" FKT). The rest of the trail is hiking / trail running.  Time is TH-to-TH, so includes both up & down Monadnock.
