Jessie and I drove down to Joshua Tree the day after my PhD dissertation defense with my dog, Ted - looking for adventure on the open road!
We wanted to optimize weather conditions so opted to start early, hoping to avoid the heat of the day. My partner Tyler dropped us off at Black Rock campground around 5:30 AM and shuttled the car around to the finish where he met us along with our friends Greg and Luke.
We went unsupported, not taking aid or running with anyone but each other for the duration and were hoping to run just under Clare's supported record. We didn't manage to break Clare's time but snuck under Sarah's unsupported FKT! Huge kudos to Clare for her stout time running in the HEAT of the day, amazing! I got some good beta from Sarah a few weeks ago and Dylan just last week, so was warned about the sandy spots. This route is sneaky hard! It sounds easier than it is (not too much climbing) but the exposure and sand make for a great challenge! Get after it, ladies!
