I shouldn't talk about the actual FKT without talking about getting to the route in the first place. We woke up nice and early and made the drive to the Bell Lake parking lot. Here we pumped up the pack raft and SUP. The paddle was about 3 km to the dock. I am not used to paddling at all. We got to the dock then started the trek to the actual route. We hiked a while and finally got to the La Cloche Silhouette Trail. We stayed on this trail until we got to the Silver Peak side trail. Chantal and I did the route once for recon. It was also nice to actually enjoy the summit for a bit. I descended down and got mentally prepared to hurt.

I started my watch and got going. I decided  to use poles on this one. Maybe another time I wouldn't though. My goal was to power hike the steep stuff and run the gradual stuff. I did my best. It didn't take long for my heart rate to go through the roof. I believe my time to get to the summit was just under 17 minutes. I got to the high point where the fire tower used to be and quickly turned around to descend. I almost immediately took a wrong turn which was annoying. I soon found the proper route and tried to make up for some time. I was bombing down the best I could. I slightly rolled my ankle at one point and I made a mental note to really be cautious. The descent is super gnarly with lots of rock and technical terrain. My main goal was to not hurt myself, yet still go fast. I raced down to where I started and was happy to see that I broke 30 minutes by a bit. I had no idea what to expect though. I'm happy with my effort.

We then made the hike back to the dock, then paddled back to the car. You couldn't really ask for a nicer day. It was beautiful all around. Killarney is an amazing place and I need to make an effort to come back yearly. I highly recommend the route as an FKT or for leisure. When you summit Silver Peak, it doesn't feel like you're in Ontario anymore. Thanks to Chantal for the idea to do this and getting me to the route. She owns the pack raft and SUP so I couldn't have done it this way without her. On to the next one...
