Description

Yunam Peak at 6111 meters above sea level is a stunning peak located in the Lahaul district of Himachal Pradesh near the famous Baralacha La Pass. The summit offers fantastic views of the Chandra Bhaga Range and the Mulkilla Range with views stretching as far as Zanskar. The path to Yunam Peak is difficult and is meant for experienced trekkers only due to the high altitude gain and bone-chilling winds as you make your way up to the summit across moraines and scree. July to September are the best months to climb here.

The climb starts from the road head at Bharatpur tent colony. Bharatpur lies on the Manali to Leh highway (NH3) just beyond the Baralacha pass. Soon one has to cross a gushing stream (emerging from a lake Yunam tso). After a morraine section the gradient flattens and a stone shelter is seen with water flowing nearby. This is considered as the base camp for the summit push. The route gets steeper till 5900 meters and then curves towards the left on the shoulder. Here on, it's mostly ice/snow(always) till we see the cairns/ flags marking the summit.
