Description

South Mountains State Park is located just south of Morganton, NC. It's NC's biggest state park with a monster postman route of at least 70 miles and 14,000' climb! You'll need permission to cross the park's undeveloped midsection. Any link-up of Clear Creek and Jacob Fork Access Areas will involve bushwhacking. You'll probably also want permission to use trails outside of park operating hours (i.e. reserve a campsite). Just like other NC State Park “every single trail” routes (see UmsteadEno RiverMorrow MountainMedoc MountainPilot MountainRaven RockStone MountainHanging Rock), the idea here is to complete all of the following official park trails in a single, non-stop effort:

  • Benn Knob
  • Big Bear
  • Clear Creek
  • Chestnut Knob
  • Fox
  • H.Q.
  • Hemlock Nature
  • Hidden Cove
  • High Shoals Falls Loop
  • Horseridge
  • Jacob Branch
  • Lake View
  • Little River
  • Lower CCC
  • Possum
  • Raven Rock
  • River
  • Saddleback
  • Sawtooth
  • Shinny
  • Turkey Ridge
  • Upper CCC
  • Upper Falls
