Description

Via Transilvanica represents the sole long-distance pathway that traverses Romania from the northeastern region to the southwestern region. It serves as a unifying force, connecting various geographical areas, historical territories, and diverse cultures.

Spanning an impressive 1,400 kilometers, Via Transilvanica unveils a rich tapestry of Transylvanian history spanning over 2,000 years, commencing from Putna and concluding at Drobeta Turnu-Severin. This remarkable endeavor is spearheaded by Tăşuleasa Social, an NGO dedicated to addressing environmental, educational, social, and cultural concerns. Their headquarters can be found in Piatra Fântânele, located in Bistriţa-Năsăud County. Travelers have the flexibility to embark on this trail in sections or complete it in its entirety, either on foot, by bicycle, or even on horseback, adapting to each individual's preferred mode of transportation. The comprehensive traveler's guide provides essential information on food, accommodations, as well as notable tourist destinations and points of interest.

Via Transilvanica celebrates diversity at every turn, as the landscape transitions from verdant grasslands along the banks of the Danube River to majestic mountain peaks. Mirroring the people who will embark on this remarkable journey, the scenery varies extensively, offering a profound opportunity to explore and understand Romania's unique attributes and the vibrant communities that call it home.

The trail consists of seven distinct segments, each meticulously marked with signage, direction indicators, and informative kilometer stones, which were completed during the summer of 2022.
