This weekend, I’ll be attempting an unsupported FKT on the Simcoe County Loop Trail, running the full loop counterclockwise, starting and finishing at the Oro-Medonte Rail Trail Parking area. I plan to start sometime between 6–8 AM, with a goal time of 18 hours, 50 minutes.

I haven’t recced the full route, but I have paced a friend through a portion of the Orillia section. I’ve mapped out natural water sources and taps along the way, and I’ll be carrying everything I need from the start no drops, crew, or resupply, in keeping with the unsupported style.

The current FKT is 20h 28m 11s, set by Chantal Demers, and I'm excited to see what I can do on this fast, runnable terrain. I’ve completed other FKTs and ultras, including a 56 km unsupported FKT on pavement (Algonquin Park Gate-to-Gate), which helped shape my pacing strategy. This will be my first ultra on rail trail.

I’ll be using a Garmin Enduro 2 to track the run and will submit a full GPX afterward.

I attempted an unsupported FKT on the Simcoe County Loop Trail starting April 26, but I decided to end my effort around 105 km.

The conditions cold, wind, and persistent rain took a bigger toll than expected. I’m proud of the work I put in leading up to this and the effort out on the course.

Thank you to the FKT community for the inspiration, I'll be back for another shot.
