Description

The Butler County Donut Trail is an attraction in southwest Ohio which connects 12 (plus one optional) donut shops. If you go to all locations you can get a "passport" stamped and receive a free donut trail shirt. Typically, this is done by driving to each donut shop over the course of several weekends and acquiring a stamp from every shop. However, for this FKT the goal is to run between all 12 primary donut shops, eating one donut per stop, all within one push (i.e. one day). Due to time constraints around when the donut shops open and close this course excludes the optional Oxford location. The specific course is up to the runner, however we found the included GPX is a good point-to-point course that gives the best chance of arriving at each location prior to closing.

Summary of Rules:

  • Go to all 12 primary locations (Option Oxford location is excluded)
  • Run between all locations
  • Participants MUST eat one full size donut per location (this is what makes the challenge fun and unique)

Me (Brian Maddock) and Eli Thompson will be attempting the first (known) completion of this run on (tentatively) January 7th. We will be doing a "supported style" , so we we will have a team that will go ahead of use to purchase the donuts and then give them to use when we arrive at the shop. This helps alleviate the combination of time constraints and lines that could make this trail not possible beyond a certain pace. Of course, a more "pure" style would be the self-supported effort where you purchase all the donuts along the route yourself. I think these both have merits because for those just interested in the challenge of completing the "support style" is more tractable. Upon completion (or failure) I'll post an update!
