Route: Trans-Tennessee (TN)

Location
Tennessee, US
Distance
621.75 mi
Vertical Gain
10,171 ft
Description

A simple concept: Run across the state from the furthest western to furthest eastern part of the state.

"My thinking was any future attempt just has to be from Arkansas/TN state line at Memphis foot bridge to the Eastern tip of TN 300 ft off the Virginia Creeper trail outside of Damascus VA. As long as the runner covers 1000k the exact course doesn’t have to be replicated. For instance Laz has a different course mapped out for a virtual run."

621.75 miles (1,000.6 kms); 10,193' gain, 7,511' lost (W-E)

Gary Cantrell just created a virtual, summer-long race on a similar course (which immediately got 6,000 people signed up!)

I made an attempt May 3, 2020 but had to end my run early. My plan is to try again later in 2020. If anyone is interested in giving it a go let me know and I can help with logistics.

I'm planning an attempt of a variation of this starting on July 16, 2023.

Plan is to pretty much follow the original Great Virtual Run Across Tennessee (2020 GVRAT) course by Gary Cantrell with some adjustments suggested by Gary for better sightseeing and safety on some roads. However the general plan is the same: from "tip to tip"!

I am going to try to start in Arkansas on the levee as close to the tip as possible as the GVRAT did by adding 20 miles or so and finish off of the Virginia Creeper Trail to avoid the private property on the TN side of the "tip".

Note:  I plan to try this "Self Supported" but may end up phoning a friend and dropping down to Supported if things don't go well.

My attempt also ended early. Hope to give it a try again in the future.Â
