1. Statement of Attempt
My name is Ade Fowler. In September 2026, I undertook a self-supported attempt to complete the National Three Peaks Challenge entirely on foot, travelling from Fort William in Scotland to Caernarfon in Wales.
The journey incorporated all three national peaks:
-
Ben Nevis – Scotland
-
Scafell Pike – England
-
Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) – Wales
I completed the mountain ascents and the entire connecting journey on foot, without using vehicle transport.
The attempt officially commenced at the Alexandra Hotel reception, Fort William, at 06:39 on 5 September 2026 and concluded at Caernarfon Castle / Castle Hill public car park at 10:39 on 15 September 2026.
The total elapsed time was exactly:
10 days, 4 hours and 0 minutes (244 hours).
These are the official start and finish times submitted as part of my Guinness World Records evidence.
The same continuous journey also incorporated recorded sea-water touches at Fort William and Caernarfon, as well as the recognised Ben Nevis and Snowdon trailhead timing points.
I provide all these timings so that FKT can assess the attempt against the appropriate route definition.
2. Previous FKT Experience
In 2023, I completed the JOGLE / LEJOG (UK) route in the male, self-supported category.
Start: 25 September 2023
Finish: 14 October 2023
Time: 19 days, 3 hours, 28 minutes and 50 seconds
That journey was undertaken self-supported and provides background to my experience with long-distance self-supported endurance challenges.
3. Self-Supported Style
I undertook the entire journey self-supported.
I travelled without a support crew. I carried the equipment required for the journey and was responsible for obtaining my own food, water, accommodation or shelter, charging requirements and other supplies while travelling along the route.
I carried my own running, mountain, wet-weather, sleeping and safety equipment. My kit included a 35-litre Salomon running pack, Cloud Up 1 tent, sleeping bag, inflatable sleeping mat, inflatable pillow, emergency bivvy equipment, waterproof clothing, navigation and electronic equipment, food and hydration equipment, foot-care equipment and emergency items.
Where I obtained goods or services during the journey, these were publicly available goods or services that I arranged and paid for myself rather than assistance provided by a support crew.
The same self-supported arrangements applied throughout the entire journey, including the sections between the sea-level points and the recognised mountain trailheads.
4. Power Supply and Charging
Maintaining power for my GPS watches, satellite tracker, phone and other electronic equipment was my own responsibility throughout the attempt.
As part of my planning, I stored a 20,000 mAh power bank at Bounce luggage storage in Glasgow, a publicly available commercial storage service, for collection during the journey.
Later in the attempt, I required additional power capacity. On 11 September 2026 at 18:50, I purchased two further 20,000 mAh power banks from Argos within Sainsbury's in Kendal, at a total cost of £44.78.
These arrangements were made and paid for by me and did not involve a support crew or privately provided assistance.
As individual power banks became depleted and were no longer required, I gave them to people I encountered during the journey rather than disposing of them.
5. GPS Recording and Satellite Tracking
I used multiple GPS and tracking devices during the attempt.
My primary devices were:
-
Garmin Fenix 5X Plus
-
Garmin Fenix 6X Pro Solar
-
Garmin inReach Mini 2 satellite tracker
The Garmin watches recorded GPS activity and route data throughout the journey. They produced separate activity records, providing two sets of GPS evidence.
The Garmin inReach Mini 2 provided an additional satellite-based location record.
I also carried a Garmin Fenix 3 as a back-up GPS watch and an Apple iPhone 13 Pro with Strava available as a further back-up recording method.
My Garmin inReach tracking was displayed publicly through adefowler.com during the attempt.
The original GPS activity files, Garmin Connect records and Garmin inReach tracking are available as supporting evidence.
6. Official Start – Fort William
My official attempt commenced at:
Alexandra Hotel reception, Fort William
06:39 – 5 September 2026
The start was independently witnessed by Paul Gunn and Alan Gabbay and recorded on video.
After leaving the Alexandra Hotel, I continued on foot to the sea at Fort William.
At 06:44, I physically touched the sea water.
This was recorded as an additional sea-level reference point.
I then continued on foot towards Ben Nevis.
At 07:17, I reached the Ben Nevis Visitor Centre, which is the start point used for my separate Running Between Trailheads FKT submission.
All three recorded points form part of the same continuous journey.
7. The Journey
From Fort William, I travelled on foot through the National Three Peaks Challenge, incorporating:
Ben Nevis → Scafell Pike → Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa)
I completed the mountain ascents, descents and connecting overland distances entirely on foot.
The journey progressed south through Scotland, into northern England and the Lake District, then through north-west England and onwards into North Wales.
There were no vehicle transfers between the mountains.
Throughout the attempt, I remained responsible for my own movement, navigation, equipment, food, water, supplies, shelter and electronic-device requirements.
My progress was documented through Garmin GPS activity records, Garmin inReach satellite tracking, photographs, video and other contemporaneous records made during the journey.
8. Snowdon and Llanberis – Intermediate Timing
After completing Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), I reached:
Llanberis Snowdon Mountain Railway Station
21:46 – 14 September 2026
This is the finish point used for my separate Running Between Trailheads FKT submission.
For the wider Coast to Coast journey, Llanberis was an intermediate point rather than the finish.
I continued on foot towards Caernarfon.
9. Caernarfon Sea-Water Touch and Official Finish
On 15 September 2026, I continued on foot towards Caernarfon.
At 10:29, I reached the sea and physically touched the sea water.
This was recorded as the finish of the sea-water-to-sea-water section of the journey.
I then continued on foot to:
Caernarfon Castle / Castle Hill public car park
where my official Guinness World Records attempt concluded at:
10:39 – 15 September 2026
The finish was independently witnessed by Katie Craig and June Staines and recorded on video.
The official finish at 10:39 corresponds with the timing submitted to Guinness World Records.
10. Recorded Start, Finish and Elapsed Times
The same continuous attempt has three separately identifiable timing definitions.

The official Guinness World Records elapsed time for the full journey is 244 hours.
The sea-water and trailhead times are recorded intermediate points within that same journey, rather than separate attempts.
For this FKT submission, I provide the complete evidence and respectfully ask FKT to determine which start and finish points apply to the relevant Coast to Coast / Sea Level Variation route definition.
11. Supporting Evidence
The evidence available in support of the attempt includes:
-
Garmin Connect activity links covering 5–15 September 2026;
-
GPS/activity records from both Garmin watches;
-
Garmin inReach Mini 2 satellite tracking;
-
publicly displayed inReach tracking through adefowler.com during the attempt;
-
photographs and video from the journey;
-
recorded Fort William and Caernarfon sea-water touches;
-
independent witnesses at the official Guinness start and finish;
-
recorded intermediate times at Ben Nevis Visitor Centre and Llanberis Snowdon Mountain Railway Station;
-
route information;
-
equipment records; and
-
other contemporaneous records from the attempt.
The GPS, satellite tracking, photographs, video and timing records collectively document my progress along the route and the chronology of the attempt.
GPS Recording Notes
On 7 September 2026, one Garmin watch recorded the day's journey in two separate activities, while the other watch recorded it as a substantially continuous activity.
Both recordings have been retained in their original form.
On 13 September 2026, both Garmin Connect activities are correctly dated 13 September. One separately exported GPX file contains an apparent timestamp anomaly, with later track points displaying 20 September.
The original file has been retained without correction, and the other Garmin watch and Garmin inReach records are available for comparison.
These matters are disclosed so that FKT can assess the original evidence transparently.
12. Request for FKT Consideration
I respectfully submit this statement and the supporting evidence for consideration under the applicable National Three Peaks Challenge Coast to Coast / Sea Level Variation category.
My full journey was completed entirely on foot and self-supported, with an official elapsed time of 10 days, 4 hours and 0 minutes, as submitted to Guinness World Records.
Within that journey, the recorded sea-water-to-sea-water elapsed time was 10 days, 3 hours and 45 minutes.
13. Declaration
I confirm that the information contained in this statement is, to the best of my knowledge and recollection, an accurate account of my National Three Peaks Challenge on foot and that the times stated are accurate according to the records made during the challenge.
