FKT: Alex Hagen, Jay Freymiller - Indiana Dunes High Traverse (IN) - 2022-12-17

We attempted this FKT from North to South arriving at the trailhead about 10:30 am EST.  Weather was cold (25°F), windy, and a touch snowy.  The trail was half (frozen) sand, a little bit of road, and a lot of dirt single track.  Wayfinding was a bit difficult, especially in the dunes where many paths cross each other, but also in the forest where the route chooses some small trails very closer to larger better marked trails.  We lost our way a few times.  We finished at about 3 hours 20 minutes with my watch reading 16.75 miles, much longer than the purported length of the route. With better weather and a better knowledge of the trail we might have done better, but still a cool tour of the parks in the area.
