I needed a final long run with good elevation gain before my taper for my 100 mile. Clark and I decided to go back to this traverse and beat the FKT I had set back in the spring. A Nor'Easter was in the forecast so we were on a tight timeline. We both carried 1.5L of water and several gels. We got to Mount Major parking around 7:30 a.m. and it was the quietest I have ever seen this trail on a weekend which was great news for us. We cruised through most of it and I started to struggle by the time we hit the quarry on the way back. Once again I ran out of water a little earlier than I would have liked (this time I only had 3 miles left as opposed to the 5 miles I had left back in the spring). With 1 mile to go the storm caught us and it absolutely drenched us, which was fine since we were back at the car within 10 minutes. It was a great push and I was happy to get a sub 6 hour.
