A family break visiting relatives in Silloth gave me the opportunity to attack this route.
Timing wasn't fantastic, 4 days after a hot and hilly Ultra and the hottest day of the year saw me being dropped off in Carlisle.
The route soon leaves the city with fantastic views of the castle and cathedral and becomes a mixed terrain run with about 30 percent trail at a guess.
It is not a terribly well trodden route and many of the trail sections were very overgrown and difficult to pass.
Some of the later trails were extremely hard to find and one was completely blocked by high crop so I had to box around it which added a few hundred metres.
Some of the views were outstanding with the lakeland fells to the south and open countryside and the distant Solway Firth to the North.
Distressingly the church and the flour mill at the finish of this trail become visible with around 9km to go and progress through this section on fairly busy roads seemed slow.
Over all I would say this is a lovely little run but would have preferred it to be a little cooler, it is definitely a route that would suit road runners more than trail.
