Started with a nice waffle breakfast at Provisions of Arrowtown to fuel up and caffeinate. Let myself digest for a little bit and explore the museum and historic police camp (the oldest building in Arrowtown).
Then against my better judgement, started the little trek towards Arrow River. Water was so clear and not as cold as I expected. From there had my Garmin and Strava ready and started my run up the hill, past the Chinese settlement up to Berkshire Street then took a right to Malaghans Road where I stayed on for quite awhile. Malaghans had some of the most stunning mountains and fields where you’ll spot dozens of horses and a lot of sheep grazing. I stayed on this road until I got to Arthur's Point. A nice little town with an Onsen! Crossed Edith Cavell Bridge, a one lane bridge and although beautiful was a bit scary to cross. It was really high up and you could see rough waters below where people were doing the Shotover Jet. It looked fun but cold for the weather (It was 7 degrees that day).
After I got past Arthur's Point I headed down Gorge Road which was a bit tricky going through the curves because of the small sidewalk but had much better space for running when you got a bit closer to Queenstown. There’s an actual bike path beside the road. Lots of downhill from here. Navigation was easy until I got into town and made my way towards the water and finally ended at Eichardt Hotel with a stunning view of Lake Wakatipu. Overall was a fantastic experience and would probably do it again.
Oh and of course celebrated with a Fergburger and fries!
