Have been eyeing this FKT route since Jakob first posted his awesome run. I’m participating in the Bois in Motion December challenge, where I decided to attempt 2 FKTs this month (needing to snag at least one). So figured today was the day!
I started my attempt at around 5:20 on a Sunday to try to get the best traffic conditions. I started at coronation park. It was a cold morning around -7C and pretty good wind coming from the West.
Was kitted up with a headlamp until sunrise, and carried all my hydration & nutrition in my half tights and Salomon bag. Started out a bit faster than planned to try to warm up quickly and think that helped me be quite a bit staying comfortable during the attempt.
The cold conditions were a big reason for my success as I didn’t end up needing to re up on water, and my 4 Salomon soft flasks were enough. I also got very lucky with lights, with my elapsed time only being 25 seconds over my moving time.
Overall an awesome route, and was such a fun way to explore Toronto. The major setback was how icy the Humber & don trail we’re, and made me have to slow down quite a bit, but that may have saved me in the long run.
Happy with the wicked day, and may try it again someday with a bit more speed on a day with less extreme conditions.
keep it movin’ & groovin’
