I completed this when there were no race events following COVID. This was a virtual race for Race To The Stones. I decided to do this from North to South as I live nearer the south end. I was dropped off fairly early at Windsor Castle on a Saturday morning and started the run around 7:30. It was a lovely sunny day and not too hot!
I headed off on the route out through the Windsor Great Park and towards Ascot. Its a really interesting route moving from the very affluent areas around Windsor and Ascot through more "common" towns like Bracknell and Crowthorne. There are forests and canals etc. along the way. As you get into Hampshire the landscape changes and you start to cross the rolling downs.
19 miles in I took a detour from the route and stopped at a small local supermarket in Yateley to stock up on food and water.
The next 20 ish miles were a bit of a slog as the heat of the day was taking its toll and there was still a long way to go. I stopped again at the garage by the canal in North Warnborough for more supplies.
Ellisfield, at around 42 miles, is the closest point on the route to my home so I arranged for my wife to meet me there with a picnic. This was about 2/3 of the way so broke the route up nicely.
At Itchen Abbas a friend met me and we ran the last 6 miles into Winchester together.
