On Sept 8th, I ran the standard loop ccw up at Mt Margaret Backcountry Loop starting at 8:07am. You climb 4 peaks, including Coldwater Peak (which is a little popsicle stick off the main trail), which gave the best views of all 4 volcanoes! As I continued, I could see Spirit Lake to my right. Very exposed trail and wish I started earlier— ended up being close to 80 degrees. The route where you traverse Mt Whittier was pretty exciting! Big drops down both sides of the peak, so I took my time as I scrambled. Stopped at Snow Lake, which was after the Whittier descent to filter water. I was pretty cooked/dehydrated at that point, so was there for a few minutes cooling off. After that point, there was a long descent to Coldwater Lake, having to stop two more times to filter water and wet my neck and face. The final few miles were fairly shaded, thank goodness, but the last mile was on the road— connecting the Coldwater Boating sight back to my starting area at South Coldwater Trailhead. There was definitely a few routes, especially up at Whittier, that I got turned around at and used All Trail app to navigate. But it was absolutely beautiful and want to better my time in cooler weather! Saw lots of elk… and of course a lot of bear and cougar scat! Ate only 5 gels as my stomach wasn’t too thrilled with the heat/dehydration. Oh well! Still had a blast in the BLAST zone! *wasnt able to add my video links here. But I have a couple on my TikTok account under Rollickingrunner
