I have been running this route pretty consistently this month chasing vert for Minotaur Skyrace later this month. I really like this variation because you get max burn on the walk up and the new trail down is very rolling and run-able. This variation is honestly one of the best training runs around, a big fan fav. I am also the kinda person who enjoys doing the same run over and over again though. I wasn't feeling particularly good and didn't have all the stuff I usually need to run mailbox (hydration vest, bottles, socks etc), but went for it anyways as a test of fitness. I was trying to see if I could get to the top under 1 hour. I think I was around 1:05-1:07. I will keep working on the sub 1 hour so I can steal the Old trail ascent FKT too (; watch out. I was slow at the top trying to rest and bring my HR down before the descent, which you need to be careful on, and I was surprised how fast I ended up getting down this thing. I think going that fast up really bought me a lot of time, so the walk down at the top didn't actually matter. Anyways, I will be back soon trying to go sub 1 hour up, but until then I will put this mark out there into the abyss that is this platform/strava. This strava segment has already gotten a lot of action this month. When it dries up more and the 5-6 trees you have to hurdle on the way down are removed it will run even faster. Being a quasi-steeple chaser is fun to though. I did start my watch at the road and the time I submitted was the split from the gate, so "gate to gate". Elapsed from Road to Road was 1:54 I am putting G2G at 1:52. I brought one packet of skratch caffeinated chews and ran in a new pair of the La Sportiva cyklons which run V fast downhill + no socks because these shoes rock (but I wouldn't recommend that).
