This was my 3rd attempt at this FKT. This is a very beatable time but I'm grateful to push the bar a little higher for the next person. To do the loop as described, the first ~4 miles on long creek are rolling and sandy. Traction makes it difficult to really dig in for sub 7:00 times. After about 4 miles you hit the road, cross over at the 4 car parking lot, and hit a sandy section of Cape Henry. Once you cross back over the road, Cape Henry turns into a packed gravel trail, this is were I let lose with everything I had left for the last 4 miles. At the very end of the loop, the last .3 miles is a nice soft, sandy trail making it difficult to maximize your final push. Which is a nice finishing touch.
Long story short, I may have got the record this time....but as soon as the fast people find out about this loop...my record won't stand a chance. Happy Trails.
