Felt really great up to Wahtum, where I refilled my flasks. Note that there’s no water between Wahtum and the LoLo area if you do this route! I continued to feel great until I got a bad headache around mile 30, which was cured by remembering to drink my fluids and crossing the Sandy River. Whatever climbing was left in my legs leaked out when I sat down for a sock change, and I struggled for a while to make forward progress. The second creek crossing and a few snowfields put a little pep in my step again, but the last two miles felt like they lasted 800 years. A few overgrown areas had me checking CalTopo to confirm I was still on the right path, but overall this route is really easy to follow. My first (nearly) 50-mile run was an amazing experience, and I’m so grateful to have access to such a beautiful place to run! I’ve got a goal time in mind for this route now and look forward to doing it again.
