Report

I began the Greenbrier River Trail in Cass at 9:10pm after running Section 3 of the Allegheny Trail. Running through the foggy night, I reached Marlinton and took a sunrise nap and ate a large waffle from a local restaurant. I continued south. The river was a welcome sight for sore feet and a chance to wash my face and legs on a hot day. The mountain farms and small towns along the river were absolutely gorgeous and kept the trail interesting. After so much climbing on the ALT days before, the flat trail was nothing to complain about.

My crew gave me water as trailhead were abundant and access from the road was easy to come by. My pacers helped me both day and night. I ran until a little after midnight the next day and enjoyed seeing the shooting stars in the fields the GRT passed through. Finally, after sleeping once more, I awoke at Spring Creek Trailhead ready to tackle the last 18 miles. They went by a little swifter since I knew I was so close. The whole effort was 175 miles, but the 77 miles of the Greenbrier River Trail were a great way to end the journey. And I am glad I completed the GRT continuously even though it was on tired legs.
