At 7am I left the sign at Ynyslas beach and headed south towards Cardigan (I started where the official gpx route was plotted) this was a different starting point to previous fkt attempt, but the sign re-assured me this was correct point.
A nice flat 3miles before I left Borth then headed towards Aberystwyth where the lumps and bumps started.
I had a rough schedule working towards a 12hr finish…..when I got to Aberarth I realised this was unrealistic, then moved the goal time. There were some runnable miles into Aberaeron, then that was probably where the flat ended.
New Quay beach was a welcome stretch…. But, knowing what the path was like from there to the Llangrannog… Brutal!!
Llangrannog was 41 miles in … a fellow coast path ‘fan’ Sean Duffy met me to pace me to the finish, this was a great relief as it made the last miles slightly easier.
The plan was to get me in before 9pm, which we nailed.
The last 4 miles are really runnable (or shuffleable if you have 55miles in your legs) !
Watch said 13hrs 59mins and 18 seconds with 42 climbs of 9400 feet.
A great section of Wales ….I didn’t hate it !!
Throughout the run my wife met me at every beach she could get to, to refuel and stock me back up.
