I've had this one on my list for awhile and after last weekend's failed attempt of this route with Jeremy Payne & Sarah Fergot, I had to go back. Took it slow for 2 reasons:
1. To keep it within reach for Jeremy so he can still go back for the unsupported time.
2. Doing a 50 mi effort a week out from a 100k (Zion) is not generally advisable, but I knew taking it really slowly would help to keep injuries at bay and speed up recovery time.
If you're wondering what that little tangent is about near the (Novato) end – um – that's an oops. Should've been 50 mi or just over. In near-darkness I was cruising down Chicken Shake Fire Rd at a 6:30 (so fun!) and completely missed a left turn. Glad I checked the map, "just to be sure."
