I started at 0700, under headlamp, from the northern terminus of the North South Trail carrying 1L of fluid and many snacks! My game plan was try to keep the pace consistent throughout the whole route (slow is smooth, smooth is fast), attack the trail sections as should be my strength and minimize stoppage time. I did not want to hammer the road sections too fast and not have legs for the finish. This FKT has stood since 2013 so wanted to see what was possible.
Met Sandy at 4 or 5 pre arranged crew spots along the route to exchange bottles and re supply calories. Changed shoes coming out of the GW, again prior to the Arcadia rock garden section and final time after exiting Arcadia onto RT 3. Picked up Sandy and Sonny the dog at this point who ran with me all the way to the ocean. Used a drop bag at the entrance to Carolina off Pine Hill Rd and final bag at the northern entrance to Burlingame. Ran a 6 minute positive split after halfway, so acheived my goal. I think there is still room for this FKT to decrease and wouldnt be surprised to see sub 11 soon!
