We got dropped off at the roundabout in Morrisburg by two friends and started running a bit before 7am. The first 20 kilometers until the Cass Bridge Conservation Area are easy, the shoulder on the left side of the road (facing incoming traffic) is quite large but a bit on an angle and mostly gravel.
The next 18.5 kilometers were a bit colder (about 10-12°C) but still fine. We stopped for about 20 minutes in Vernon to meet with some friends who brought us some supplies, and warned us that it was raining heavily on the next section of the route.
It started raining right after we left Vernon, at about kilometer 40, plus heavy wind, and temperature dropped to about 5°C. We had to stop at kilometer 53 in Greely to go warm up in a fast food restaurant and drink a coffee. It then stopped raining until kilometer 60, and we stopped briefly at kilometer 62 for a bathroom break.
Weather got a bit better (still overcast) and we did a very quick stop at Black Squirrel Books & Espresso Bar at kilometer 72.8 where friends had a little cheer station. The last kilometers until the finish line at the Confederation Building are in the most vibrant part of the city and very enjoyable.
We finished at the Confederation Building (stopped tracking), and ran to the Centennial Flame in front of the Parliament to meet with some friends.
It's a challenging route on a bad day, but finishing in Ottawa near the Parliament is very rewarding.
