Started out in the dark in historic downtown Fernandina, beautiful location. Ripped through town and the south end resorts perhaps a little too fast, was feeling really good and excited.
Getting onto the beach at the south end was a tad jarring, but the headwind as I can around the southern tip was not welcomed haha. The sand was mostly well packed but the tide was in so I couldn’t take advantage of the flat low tide beach. Just before the northern end of the island the sand became extremely loose and the lateral slope was quite steep.
Getting back onto solid ground felt INCREDIBLE. 27km on sand is a TRIP. Not for the faint of heart. I surprised myself with the pace I could maintain up until the finish.
Solid fun run. I was happy that this cold-weather adapted Canadian was not wrecked by the Florida heat. I loved that I could carry all my fluids and fuel, inspired by the pioneer spirit of self sustainability. 2x 500mL soft flasks and a 3L bladder on my back filled with my homemade sport drink.
Bout time I got around to submitting this!!
