My name is Benjamin Moré. I am a 29-year-old French citizen currently living and working in Ireland.
I discovered the Ireland Way while researching long-distance races and hiking routes in Ireland. I found the challenge very interesting and decided to prepare for it. After around eight months of training and preparation, I started my attempt in Castletownbere on July 22 at 15:52 and finished in Ballycastle on August 8 at approximately 13:59.
My goal was to push my limits and experience Ireland in a different way. I completed the entire route alone, carrying a backpack of around 12 kg containing spare clothing, camping equipment, electronics, medical supplies, hygiene items, water, and enough food for one day.
Throughout the journey, I tried to camp close to towns whenever possible so that I could resupply with food and water. Also I stayed in accommodation for around four nights during the journey
I chose to complete the route alone because I wanted to test my limits and see what I was capable of achieving over such a long distance.
The first few days were challenging while I adjusted to the pace and routine. I was fortunate with the weather overall, with only three or four days of rain during the entire journey. Foot care was difficult at the beginning, but I managed to keep my feet in good condition all the way to the finish.
The route was generally in very good condition and easy to follow. Most sections were well maintained and accessible. I encountered a few minor issues along the way, including some overgrown areas, a small number of closed sections, and occasional roadworks that required some extra attention. However, these were isolated situations, and overall the route was straightforward to follow.
I carried the Ireland Way Passport throughout the route and collected stamps at several locations. I also received the official completion certificate at the finish.
The landscapes were beautiful, and the experience allowed me to discover Ireland exactly as I had hoped. I also had the opportunity to meet many friendly people along the way. Completing the Ireland Way was a memorable personal challenge and an experience that I am very proud of.
