I started at 07:40 am in Wergenstein and ran the Via Capricorn in a clockwise direction, climbing first towards Farcletta digl Lai Grand. The downhill from the Alperschälli to Z’Hinderst is quick but punchy. From there, I followed the singletrack down the valley before climbing up to the Camaner Hüttä, staying true to the official SwitzerlandMobility route (Trail 693) which offers a smoother and more enjoyable experience on gravel and trail compared to the paved road below.
After the huts, I descended into Safien Platz before climbing back up to Glaspass. A steep and steady climb. After a short downhill to the Carnasus creek, I started the final climb to the Carnusapass. Just as I reached the pass around 1pm, a thunderstorm rolled in bringing lightning, wind, and hail, which stayed with me for the remainder of the route back to Wergenstein. The final descent was muddy and slick, making the last section more tiring than expected.
I ran the entire route alone, didn’t resupply any food, and refilled water from natural sources and village fountains.
