Like so many living on the Front Range, we have been thinking about running the entire ridgeline of the Rawah Wilderness. Once we saw this newly added route from Cameron Pass to Jack Dickens, we decided to give it a go during the weekend of Gnar Runners' Never Summer 60k and 100k races. We ran the route south to north, from the Cameron Pass picnic area to the Jack Dickens trailhead. As recommended by the route's creator Scott Ortlip, we decided to use the detour around Island Lake Peak, between Mount Ashley and Rawah Pyramid. This eases the technical difficulty, but more importantly, offers the opportunity to refill water roughly at the halfway point. Aside from this detour, we tagged every named and unnamed peak on the ridge and kept our feet on the crest wherever the terrain allowed.
