I set the FKT for this route earlier this year while running with a my favorite partner, Dan. Today's solo run was actually a project run for a challenge that Dan and I will be attempting in a few weeks. The temp was less than expected this morning and then it started to lightly rain, which lowered the temp even more. The legs felt good, the weather was great and my splits started to look like I might be able to beat my original FKT on this route. What was supposed to be a long easy run transformed into an impromptu FKT attempt.

I had brought along extra water and calories because of the expected heat. Since the temp was lower than anticipated, I was sure that I could make the distance without running out due to the extra effort. Total of 1500ml of water and 950 calories of gels and waffles as well as my favorite snack pack of applesauce.

I had a great time on this beautiful scenic trail. If you are looking for a challenge and great scenery all in one, this is your route. The long and short trail are one in the same until they split at about 2.5 miles in, and don't join together again until about mile 13. As soon as I made the split from the shared portion to the long trail, I had the trail to myself. Not another person in sight while I was on the long trail specific portion. Just me, the trial and a light rain. What a great way to start the weekend!
