My friend Megan and I ran the Great Glen way in 2023. We wanted to run as fast as we could, but we aren't amazing athletes and knew we had to split the distance over multiple days.
We stayed in hostels and B&Bs along the way, but did not meet any of our friends and family. We ate food from the placed we stayed in and bought snacks where we could in little stores.
We started off strong from Fort William, with nice weather and a very flat route on our first day. We were going really well until my knee started to hurt which slowed us down in pace. The second day brought more hills, and again amazing weather. However, my knee was still hurting so we made it a shorter day to give it a rest. On the third day, we found our groove again and the miles flew by. However, it was so hot that we both got heat rash, and this is Scotland!
On the last day, we started early so we would finish quickly, getting us to a final time of 3 days, 4 hours and 29 minutes. We struggled a bit to find the end point in Inverness, but managed it eventually!
