Spontaneous fkt attempt on this North Shore classic went surprisingly well. Hanes Valley has seen quite a bit of action recently, including Mike Sidic besting Gary Robbins 2014 FKT by a minute or so earlier this year.
Marcus Ribi ran the loop in 2:37:01 on August 12th, 2020, setting a new FKT, and I had his splits in mind. https://www.strava.com/activities/3904641151
I was about a minute behind at the helipad and then somehow ended up a few minutes ahead at Crown Pass. Seems Marcus got a bit off route at the start of the boulder field and lost a bit of time. I'm not sure I could have cracked his time otherwise.
It was a cool, albeit damp, August morning. No creek refills. 500ml water and a few gels.
