Have been wanting to do this trail for awhile and had great weather today, so decided to go for it. Started early afternoon due to family commitments.
The first 6 miles of the trail are in excellent condition with great views. Mostly smooth single track with some rocky areas. The loop at the end of the trail is in much worse shape and does not look as well trafficked. I was glad I had the route plugged into my watch or it would have been difficult to follow in some areas that were overgrown. There were also some sandy spot and areas that have been torn up by cattle. I was very thankful to get back on the return trail after completing the loop.
There is no water available on the trail so make sure to carry everything you need with you, especially if it is getting warm. The entire trail is sun exposed and a windy day would be brutal. I didn't see any snakes today but was definitely watching the trail the entire time for rattlesnakes. Would not want to have a bad run in 8 miles from the trailhead with nowhere to bail out!
