Clear skies, no smoke, and beautiful views! Photos on Strava
I have been wanting to submit this route for some time but didn't have a GPS track, so I did it all at once!
Only saw one person on the summit of Pyramid and a few more closer to the trailhead, but 90% of the route was wilderness solitude. The Crystal Range traverse is such a fun scramble, a moving meditation with Tahoe in the distance.
I refilled water at the inlet to Pyramid Lake and again on the northern edge of Lake Aloha. It was warmer than i expected so I ended up going through 5 16-oz handrunners, and about 5 Spring energy gels. Overall it felt great, and despite one trip and minor fall on the trail back, I felt super safe on the route. The trail is runnable with some rocky sections that demand your full attention at full speed, and the cross-country section can be done probably at least 15 minutes faster just by a little bit better routefinding.
Highly recommended!
