I took a shot at a Jason Hardrath mountain record and managed to take it down!
2:11:50 to the summit
2:37 at the summit
The East Ledges are not too bad; often you can cut off the crest to the North (climbers right on the way up) onto a system of ledges. But the granite is clean and stable, with spectacular positions and views! Highly recommended!
I really pushed the ascent, and even though I was up 23 minutes at the summit, I lost time on the descent. The scree slope is super fun to run down, very heinous on the way up, but the rest of the trail is very broken, rocky and technical, and is not that fast.
I also recommend NOT using my GPS track! I hadn't been on the trail in over 10 years, and while trying to navigate at full speed, I got off course both on the way up and down between the lakes, losing time going out of the way on a large talus slope, as well as losing time and morale doing some full-on willow bushwacking!
Otherwise it felt like a maximum effort, including the sprint to the finish after hitting the very runnable Whitney Trail, and I was very happy with the result.
The next day I met up with Kiana Ramli and supported her on her attempt, and we managed to take the Mixed team FKT as well, this time with no wrong turns! Basically a fantastic mountain weekend!
