I hadn't visited the La Platas in awhile so I called Sampson and dialed in a push for Kennebec Pass to Centennial. It was a cool morning at the top of the pass with clouds streaming overhead, draping the surrounding summits. Smelled like rain so we packed rain jackets and threw caution to the wind. We started at 8:33a. I did two 50k races the previous weekend but felt decent enough early. We cruised around the south side of Taylor Lake then gingerly bombed down to the Bear Creek turn off. The streams were engorged after all the recent rain and the fungus was popping. After the talus crossings north of Diorite we started ascending the switchbacks toward Sharkstooth Pass. I finally started feeling a little off with the climbing. By the final push up the ridge I was smoked. Sampson got up to the summit a little ahead of me. There was lingering cool air at the top but the rain held off and we started getting patches of sunshine. We took our time on the return and decided to go high around the lake by ascending the Efendi ridge to join the CT. Back at KP and our car at 11:36a.
It looks like the FKT is for the ascent but there should be one for roundtrip.
