Stoked I finally got to do this route! What a cool range to make your way across in a day! And holy obsidian everywhere.
Started this route with the intention of doing it unsupported. But it was too hot a day and I ran out of water sooner than anticipated. Ended up going 2.5 hours with only 500ml before deciding to call my husband to bring me water. Had to reset with him for 30ish minutes or so, to get back in a better spot, but I was able to continue on and finish. The seasonal spring was all dried up, but I knew this ahead of time. There was one small snow patch on Glass Mountain where I was able to refill my ice bandana.
Sand is the main theme of this route. The cross-country sections are straightforward and all class 1, aside from the final approach up Cone Peak - that is class 2. The section in the trees is tedious due to the deadfall, and I stepped in who knows how many ground squirrel homes.
I went the same direction others have gone and did the high points along the route as follows: Cone>Wildred>Kelty>Glass Mt Ridge Peak> Glass Mountain>Glass Mountain North>Sentinel Meadow Peak>Bald Mountain.
