After catching the running bug this year, I always had this trail in my mind to run. It's about 25 minutes from my current home and I remember it as a kid. I needed a good long run in my training block for my approaching 3 September 100 mile ultra. So I blocked off the 7th of August in my calendar to tackle the entire length of this trail. Wouldn't you know, I checked the weather a day prior and it was set to ran the whole day! Well, I had everything prepped anyway and it's not like you just stop running for a little rain. This is the reason I only took 2 photos the whole day (my daughter actually dropped me off and took one. My wife picked me up and took the other). I was too afraid to take my phone out of the double zip lock bag I had it stored in.

The run was awesome! I remember heading out of Rolfe and thinking how beautiful the scenery was. You can see in the first photo, I started with a rain jacket on knowing the rain would start any minute. And boy did it! I got warm quick, so I packed the jacket in and just enjoyed the nice cool rain. That was until after running about 20 miles is soaking wet shoes. I remember listen to Dean Karnazes book, he was specifically talking about not having wet feet as it would lead to trouble. That started to creep into my thoughts, but quickly pushed them out, as there was nothing I could do until my ride at the end.

The rain left the trail completely my own, as no one was out. Well, one runner started running out of Humboldt, but was quickly turned around by the rain. He was carrying a phone. I stopped in Rutland and Humboldt for water refills. They had two shelter type houses right along the trail that made it really nice. The intervals of those stops are spot on. Just as I finished my in pack water stores, I hit the stops. Very nice level and well maintained trail. Next time I think I'll go to the opposite end and run it back.
