This was my first FKT, and since I knew most of the trails from previous adventures, I thought it'd be easy. Wrong! It turns out FKTs are way different than races. The weight of the pack slowed me down, and the lack of shoe and sock changes has my feet pretty raw today.
I ran clockwise from the Coffeen Park TH, totally unsupported and solo. I carried the Katadyn BeFree filter, which was definitely the right call with all the water available in the BIghorns. I fueled the day with Clif Bars, Spring Energy, and some gummy bears I brought along to get me through some low spots.
It was a beautiful day in the mountains, the Bighorns are my favorite mountain range, and this route highlights the best of the Bighorns.
Started at 5 am on Friday the 21st, finished at 1:18 am on Saturday the 22nd. There's definitely room for improvement if someone goes into this FKT with adequate training.
