I love the high part of this route. Such a neat feeling being out there in an area so remote that I'm near certain nobody else was in the South Warner Wilderness that whole day... except Colton. He started his FKT just before me. It was super fun chasing the route behind him. The trail had some sections of blowdown and overgrowth, and petered out a few times-- it made for some pauses and slow downs, but none of it was too bad. There was signage at all of the junctions, and water still available at 3-4 different creeks in the latter half (the last water I noted was around mile 16). I barely drank anything though, topped off only once. We had excellent weather, sunny but cool. The route is very exposed and would probably be rough on a hot day.
I hit the Lap button and paused my watch at the finish to note the time, as noted in the photo. My watch also said around 4200 ft gain at that point - Colton's said higher and there appears to be a large range among prior finishers, so who knows? We thought about going back the same way on the out-and-back, but opted to instead explore more ground and took "Owl Creek Trail" for the return to Pepperdine CG together... this, I do not recommend. My Strava activity says more about that.
