I backpacked this loop a couple years ago with some friends, and in researching the route found this page with everyone’s reports. Running it in a day sounded pretty absurd to me but it stuck in my head, so it was great to finally get back out there and do it! It’s a beautiful area, and I got lucky with perfect weather.
Left the car at 4:30am and finished just over 12 hours later, going counterclockwise. Even having done it before, the route finding / micro nav between miles 26-32 really ate up a lot of time. Crossed the stream one too many times at the end and had to backtrack to find a safe place to cross, everything is running really high right now. But, happy to have completed it safely and put a women’s time on the board!
Refilled water at the Dominguez campground, and then again right when I hit Little Dominguez Creek after the canyon descent (it was pretty silty for filtering). A friend ran it the same day I did, starting a bit after I did and passing me at mile 10 (hence the supported entry). A handful of people were at the campground when I passed through around 9am, and lots of day hikers around Bridgeport by the time I returned - plenty of spectators for my final steam crossings!
