I set out to improve Bill Wahl's unsupported record of 6 laps and add a self-supported time for this FKT. I parked near the History Museum and used my car as a resupply stop, each lap. Tailwind was my drink of choice with a sweet tea and Fairlife shake mixed in. I used a mix of Honey Stinger waffles, BPN Go Gels, protein balls and Clio greek yogurt bars for fuel.
My intent was to pace at 5mph for as long as I could hold that. Besides bathroom breaks, that pace lasted through roughly mile 30. From there, I used a walk the inclines, jog the flats and downhills. After mile 40, the dogs were barking, the calves were mooing and the knees were aching. Toward the end, I surprised myself with the amount of jogging I was able to get in. Great weather for the day. Classic midwestern November weather, mid 40s for a low and mid 60s for a high. I ended up with 9 laps over 11 hours and 24 minutes.
