Awenda Provincial Park is about an hour away from my house. I've been wanting to go all season, but just getting the opportunity today. After a slow morning, I packed my gravel bike and my running clothes and made the drive.
First, I rode my gravel bike in the windiest conditions for 52km. This area is beautiful and perfect country roads for biking. In hindsight, I guess I should of started with the run, followed by a bike ride.
Once completed, I loaded my bike back in my car, got changed and did a mini running warm-up, legs swings and 3 strides. I had the route loaded on my watch and started the attempt at 5:05pm (counter-clockwise).
I stopped 2x along the way. Once for a dog who wanted to greet me; and the second because my AirPod fell out of my ear. Ugh! I kept the tempo pace up and enjoyed the nicely manicured trails. 😍
The most stressful part of the run was the end. I still had my watch on navigation mode, and I totally forgot you can't stop it when it's on this screen. I was completely in panic mode because I knew I was close to the record and I didn't want to miss it because I couldn't stop my darn watch. I kept pressing the "lap" button, to try to get out of the page, which would delay things even more...Total rookie move!
My time was likely around 44:19 so I guess ~ 30+ seconds passed of me frantically trying to stop my watch 🤦🏼♀️.
I've submitted the FKT as 44:53 because that's what's recorded on my watch file when everything was said and done. I'll chalk this up to a learning opportunity.
