6:15 start
Quick weekend trip to Algonquin Provincial Park. We hiked another trail Saturday night, slept in the car and tackled this trail Sunday morning.
The temperature was ideal at 15C to start (but dewy). We quickly realized there was a reroute on the trail due to a closed bridge. This added approximately 3-4km to the day. The sign (attached) stated it was a 2.5 km reroute for each direction. Unfortunately the reroute was on the lollipop section, which meant we needed to do it twice today.
Unfortunately, right before the big loop started, I (Chantal) caught my toe and ate dirt super hard. I immediately had severe pain in my right shoulder. I thought for sure I dislocated it. I just laid there, crying. After a few minutes, I collected my emotions and with much difficulty, stood up. I gave my poles to Jamieson and isolated my shoulder movement by sticking my thumb behind my front water bottle. Ouch! After a couple of hours, I was able to move it a little more, but I still can't raise my shoulder over my head. Hopefully that heals quickly!!
This route is popular with backcountry hikers/campers. We saw a few hikers throughout the run.
We both brought our filters and filtered our water at streams throughout the run and each carried our nutrition for the day.
Overall, it was a great run and we both enjoyed sharing the trail miles together on this mixed gender fkt. It was Jamieson's longest run since the Ice Age Trail! :)
With no more falls, we were happy to finish. The trail is rugged, wet and full of hills. Happy to get it done as this has been on the bucket list for a few years now. We celebrated with showers at the Provincial Park and treats from the grocery store.
