I started on the Pine Ridge Trail at 9AM on the dot from China Camp and flew through some of my favorite wilderness in the world to complete the fastest known time. It was quite hot for the first 10 or so miles before hitting the redwoods and I was glad to find plenty of brisk and refreshing water out on the trail. Many hikers and rattlesnakes were out enjoying the heat and I couldn't have asked for a more special day. Big Sur has held a special place in my heart since I was a little kid, and I felt just like one out there again going after the FKT. The last few miles were some of the best flow I have had in a while, and once I finished I was greeted by the Ventana Wilderness Alliance who is responsible for the restoration of the Pine Ridge trail and maintains many trails in the Big Sur Area. It was one of the hottest days I have experienced in Big Sur and I hope to return again to lower my time even more, maybe when I'm not in the middle of heavy 100 mile training load.
