I left from the southern end on Saturday, July 18, at 7:25. The beautiful, cool morning made the first miles very enjoyable as the woods were beginning to wake up. This section was more beautiful than I remembered, to be honest. I filled up my water from the pump at the lean-to about 7 miles in. As the trail went out of the woods through skirting around farmland my pace slowed. The grass was frequently waist to chest high and the ground was mushy and ruddy. The mile or two of road helped with the pace, but I definitely lost a lot of energy going through this section. I stopped at the second lean-to around mile 17 and filled up my water for the last time. I had brought my filter but with these two stops I ended up not needing to use it. The final section through the woods was the wettest of the day, with some of the ponds overflowing with water that was ankle deep. I finished at the gorge on the northern end at 4:30:05 with a big smile on my face! It has always been a goal of mine to complete this trail in its entirety in one shot! I look forward to coming back and seeing if I can lower my time and I hope more people come and take the challenge.
