I had been thinking about doing an FKT on the Mullerthal Trail for years and finally I felt ready to give it a go.
I started at 8:36 under misty rain, gels with a total of 200gr of carbs and a 500ml handheld bottle. My goal was to stay under 3hrs, but since I had heavy legs from the start, I knew it was gonna be a tough run. I should’ve stopped in Larochette to refill my water, but I pushed on and arrived in Mullerthal noticeably dehydrated, where I was finally able to refuel.
Since I had started at the highest point of the course, the last 6km were mostly uphill. It was a grind, but I got it done and I am pretty satisfied with my time. Although, if I did it again, I'd probably pick a different starting point.
It was my first FKT, but definitely not my last.
