This trail is mostly flat with some gentle grades. Soft soil with broken down leaf litter make up most of the loop underfoot. There are small boulder patches here and there. Tree roots are a common obstacle. A summer run means a beautiful deciduous forest canopy the entire trail.
I parked my vehicle at the Robitaille Homestead TH (near Woodyard - see map). The loop is easily accessed from there. I ran the loop clockwise. This allowed for a gentle down-grade in the early going.
The trail is well marked. There are four park roadway crossings. One segment of the loop includes passage through two campgrounds. You need to be alert to some tricky turns here. I highly recommend you recci this segment prior to your speed attempt. This is another reason why I started where I did and travelled clockwise. I wanted to correctly complete the campground segment first.
I closed the loop with my Suunto watch reading 8.46 km.
Awenda Provincial Park is well serviced with camp sites and great summer swimming in Georgian Bay.
